It makes sense that plastic pollution has a bad reputation, which unfortunately casts plastic manufacturers in a negative light. However, what many people don’t know is that some of the most avid supporters of plastic recycling and responsible resource utilisation are plastic manufacturers like us here at Tufbag.

As a company that offers polypropylene bags for sale, our Polyco membership is proof that we take our responsibility to the environment very seriously.

What Is Polyco?

Polyco is a registered producer responsibility organisation (PRO) that is dedicated to ensuring plastics manufacturers in South Africa comply with the National Environmental Management: Waste Act. It also promotes extended producer responsibility among its members.

As a PRO, Polyco acts as an intermediary between the government and members of the plastics industry, helping to oversee things like the collection of plastic waste and ensuring that it gets recycled as much as possible. Where necessary, Polyco also oversees the proper disposal of certain types of plastic products once consumers have used and disposed of them.

Polyco’s main goal is to ensure that registered producers fulfil their environmental and waste management responsibilities. This guarantees a more sustainable plastics industry underpinned by a framework that promotes accountability.

What Does Being A Polyco Member Mean?

In simple terms, being a Polyco member means that, as a manufacturer of plastic products, we take our responsibility towards the environment very seriously. Being a member of Polyco means committing to sustainability and taking accountability.

As Polyco members, we are required to voluntarily contribute to membership fees, which promote recycling and investment in sustainable practices industry-wide.

We are also required to provide accurate data on our production, importation, and recycling practices. As members, we are obliged to implement and promote sustainable manufacturing practices within our operations, which includes reducing plastic waste as much as possible and increasing the use of recycled materials wherever we can.

Our membership in Polyco is a testament to our commitment to supporting recycling throughout the industry and internally at our company by collaborating with and supporting the recycling industry.  This includes investments in recycling infrastructure and technologies, raising awareness among our clients about recycling, as well as fostering partnerships with recycling companies.
